WILSON, Babetta Jean (Scidmore) Babetta Wilson, 68, died in her home October 6, 2018, surrounded by her loving family after an eight-year- long struggle with cancer. Raised in Berkeley, she graduated from Berkeley High ’68, obtained a B.S. in Physical Education from University of California Davis ’73, and a Master’s of Education from Sonoma State University ’05. Her early summers were spent working in the mountains where she met her eventual husband of 45 years. A devoted and passionate teacher, Babetta taught elementary school for more than 25 years, starting her career at Harmony School in Occidental and moving to J.X. Wilson School before retiring from Robert L. Stevens Elementary in 2011. During her teaching career, she attended Sonoma State to earn her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Reading. From this work, she authored the local children’s alphabet book, “S is for Sebastopol”. She was best known for love of her family, love of nature, love of community and outdoor activities. She was an avid biker, swimmer, and hiker, who immensely enjoyed her life-long bridge club as well as her challenging book club. She loved to sing and play the guitar. Her beaming smile was always disarming combined with her tight curly hair. One of Babetta’s greatest joys was creating a home filled with laughter and love. Her survivors include beloved husband, Roger Wilson and three sons, Ryan Wilson (Pilar Wilson), Philip Wilson (Sarah Maggio) John Wilson (Samantha Wingard); four grandchildren, Theo, Cece, Lulu and Olivia Wilson. She also leaves behind four siblings, Barbara Farrell (James Farrell), Bonnie Scidmore, Beverley LaDeur Smith (Mark Smith), and brother Robert Scidmore (Karen Payne). She was preceded in death by her parents, Judge S. Bruce Scidmore and Beth Joy (Biggie) Scidmore. A celebration of life will be held at Community Church of Sebastopol, United Church of Christ located at 1000 Gravenstein Hwy North, on October 20, 2018 at 10 a.m. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Lodgeof The American Cancer Society or the UCC Community Church of Sebastopol. Loving, joyful and devoted, wife, mother, and Nana.
