Barbara (Dzialo Lucas) Pitts, 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2018. Born in Norwich, she was the daughter of the late John and Aneila (Nellie Pudlo) Dzialo.
Barbara was a longtime resident of Connecticut prior to living in Oregon and California in recent years.
Barbara trained to be a nurse at St. Raphael’s in New Haven, CT, graduating in 1957. For more than 59 years she practiced as an RN, comforting the ill at Uncas on the Thames, Backus Hospital as well as numerous private care and in home care facilities. She enjoyed providing comfort and care for others and received that same comfort and care in her final days. Special thanks to Carol and her staff of loving caregivers at Chez Louise as well as the angels at Sutter Hospice of Santa Rosa.
Barbara loved the holidays with friends and family; seeing the family together gave her a great feeling of warmth and love. Barbara was full of life with a strong sense of humor and sarcastic wit. She had many lifelong friends, was a great dancer, music lover and fantastic baker. She loved anything arts and crafts and especially enjoyed quilting, knitting afghans, cross stitching and beading. Barbara was always well dressed and liked “pretty” things: flowers, jewelry, shoes, clothes, particularly if they were purple. Always willing to go above and beyond she spent countless hours making things for family, friends and even strangers if they were in need.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Theresa Tumicki and Julian Dzialo. She is survived by her brother Lucian, her daughters, Jacqueline and Lisa and her son Mark, her grandchildren Alexandra, Heidi, Joey and one great grandson, Aiden.
Barbara will be greatly missed by all. Her love will guide those who knew her and she will live on in our hearts. Farewell to our sister, mother, nurse, coworker, mentor and friend.
The family is still finalizing details regarding a memorial service in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Researchat (1.800.708.7644) or Sutter Care at Home Hospice (925.363.4145)
