Helen Williams, 97, of Sebastopol, loving wife of Charles R. Williams, passed away peacefully with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Harry and Goldie Allen on March 28, 1922, in Jackson, Minnesota. At age 12, Helen moved with her family to California where she graduated from Oakdale High School near Modesto. She met her husband of 76 years on a skating rink date. After their wedding in Modesto at her parents’ home, they farmed for several years until 1953, when they moved to Sebastopol with their two children where Charles had a job opportunity in the apple industry.
Family was the center of Helen’s world. Her greatest joy was taking care of her husband and children. She was an expert seamstress and was a member of a life-long sewing circle of friends. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting, canning, traveling, and weeks at Lake Pillsbury. She participated in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was an active member of her church’s discussion group. She and Charles enjoyed socializing with the Hill Hoppers and Merri-Go-Rounders dance clubs. She was a lifelong member of the Ripon Grange and the Community Church of Sebastopol UCC.
Helen loved her family, her friends, her garden, making good meals, and watching butterflies. We will miss her raspberry vinegar, pies, jam, and homemade ice cream. She enjoyed spending time with her eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Helen lived by the motto, “Keep Smiling,” and was a kind, compassionate peacemaker who will be greatly missed, We are happy to have had so many wonderful years together.
Helen is survived by her husband, daughter Helen Olson (Rich), son Charles (Julie), her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. We thank and extend our gratitude to all those who have helped care for Helen.
