James “Jim” Albers passed away on Sunday, April 26 at the age of 87.  He is survived by daughter Cynthia, of Sebastopol, and son Gregory, of San Diego.

Born in North Dakota, Jim’s family relocated to Los Angeles in 1930 to open a family business.  He served as a radioman in the first years of the Cold War, in the barren landscape known as “Radio City” in Adak, Alaska.  He tried his hand at sales for the Sunbeam corporation; his territory ranged from Petaluma to Santa Rosa, and his responsibilities included live cooking demonstrations at Pederson’s Department Store.  Jim eventually settled on appraisal work in Southern California and played a significant role in the development of the southern and central California highway system.  Jim will be remembered for his humble nature, steadfast friendship, poems and rhymes, and his collection of ‘40’s Big Band music, which he used to entertain others from the piano.
