John Robert Ahlborn, Sr., of Windsor, California, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at the age of 74. John was born on October 25, 1944 in Richmond, California and later moved to Santa Clara, California where he attended and graduated from Buchser High School in 1962. John married Gail Soos, his high school sweetheart on August 10, 1963 and quickly started a family. In 1975, John and Gail moved their family to the small town of Akeley, Minnesota where they owned Hardware Hank Hardware Store. The family returned to California in 1982.

Known for his quick wit and humor, John enjoyed dirt biking, fishing and smelting, camping and gardening with his family and friends. John “Big Iron” Ahlborn worked as an ironworker for 36 years and was a lifetime member of San Francisco Ironworkers Local 377.

John was the loving husband of 55 years to Gail Marie Ahlborn (Soos); beloved son of Mary Ellen Ahlborn and the late William George Ahlborn of Santa Clara; cherished father of John Ahlborn, Jr., James (Trishia) Ahlborn and Thomas (Cathy) Ahlborn; dear brother of William Ahlborn of Yelm, Washington and Gail Ahlborn (Steve Thomas) of Loomis, California; cherished grandfather of Bryan Ahlborn, Nicolas Ahlborn, Madison Ahlborn, Haleigh Ahlborn, Kelsey Ahlborn, Melanie Ahlborn, Lucas Ahlborn, Cheyanne Mills, Emma Ahlborn, Breanna Johnson and Keira Ahlborn; cherished great-grandfather of Paisley Ahlborn-Reeves and loving uncle, brother-in-law and friend to many.

Pleasant Hills Memorial Park, 1700 Pleasant Hill Road, Sebastopol, California
Celebration of Life reception will be held immediately following the services at:
John and Gail’s Residence, 1407 Woody Creek Lane, Windsor, California

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Memorial Hospice in Santa Rosa, California or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research
