Mary Boteilho passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2017 at the age of 77. Mary was born at home in Sunflower County, Mississippi on November 10, 1939. She grew up on a farm in the country, plowed the fields and loved nature and all of God’s animals. She joined the Army after high school and was stationed at Fort Ord. After leaving the Army, she moved to Los Angeles. She moved to Santa Rosa in 1980 and worked at HP. Mary met her soul mate of 53 years, Lynn Ashmore, while playing softball in 1963. Together they started Mar-Lyn Quarter Horses and raised World Class Halter, Reining and Working Cow Horses. They had horses in the Top Ten AQHA World Shows, Top Ten AQHA High Point, PCQHA High Point, NRCHA Futurity Finalist, PHBA World Show Top Ten and many others. Mary loved fishing, camping, boating, and horseback riding. She was an animal lover all of her life. During the day you could find her building a barn, putting up fences, riding her tractor or playing with her young horses. In the evenings, she was in the garden surrounded by her dogs, cats, or sitting in the yard with her peacocks. Mary touched the lives of many people. She had a wonderful love of life, a gentle soul and a great sense of humor. Mary always had a sparkle in her beautiful blue eyes and a gleam in her golden hair. She enjoyed spending time chatting with her friends and telling stories. Mary asked for little but appreciated much. She was honest, dedicated to her friends and had an excellent work ethic. She is irreplaceable and will be truly missed. We would like to thank the caregivers of Heartland Home Hospice for their loving care and respectful treatment in Mary’s last few months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, May 18 at 11:00 at Pleasant Hills Memorial Park in Sebastopol. The family requests you RSVP if you are able to attend. Call (707) 528-0597 or eclecticclutter@comcast.net.
