Maryanne Elizabeth Pallmann (Woods), passed away on Sunday, September 11th after a loving and memorable life. Maryanne was predeceased by parents James and Grace Woods (O’Grady). Maryanne was the loving sister of James Harold Woods (deceased) and Martin Michael Woods (Joan). She was the cherished mother of Margaret Elizabeth Pallmann-Stewart (Mike) and Michael Siegfried Pallmann (Clothilde). She was the treasured grandmother to Samantha, Marissa, & Katarina Stewart, and Ané & Josefina Pallmann, using “five girls grandma” as her email address . Maryanne will also be fondly remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was born at Saint Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco and spent her early childhood years in the Potrero District, moving to the Parkside District and graduating from St. Cecilia’s grammar school and Mercy High School. She was proud to be part of Mercy High’s second graduating class and she was the California state winner for original poetry in her senior year.
Maryanne spent her early adult life enjoying music, dance and travel. She left with the lasting admiration of friends and relatives as she traveled through Ireland with her guitar. She was an active member of San Francisco’s United Irish Cultural Center and she was well known at the Knights of the Red Branch Irish dance mixers. In her mid-twenties she married Siegfried Eric Pallmann and raised her family on 40th Avenue in San Francisco’s Sunset District. Many lasting friendships were made with neighbors and fellow parents at Holy Name School.
Maryanne proudly worked as an administrator for the San Francisco Unified School District for 27 years. As retirement approached she moved to her increasingly favored home in Sebastopol. There she spent many years tending to a diverse and appreciative collection of companion pets. She was married for a short time to Mattias Greifzu until his untimely death.
The amount of hard work she put in amazed observers and relatives. In her last project Maryanne built her dream home and acted as the general contractor, directing workers and making decisions with confidence and clarity.
Maryanne was a strong and fun loving woman. She adored her grandchildren and her family at large, always being generous with her time and means. All will deeply miss her.
