Ken McHugh died peacefully in his home on May 14, 2017 in Sebastopol, CA, surrounded by love. He was 87. He died the way he lived; giving love, humor, and blessings.
Ken was born in Alameda, CA on August 11, 1929, and was raised in Oakland, CA. He attended Santa Rosa Junior College, graduating in June 1950. Ken was drafted into the US Army and served from February 1951 to November 1952. He was a Sergeant First Class, fighting on the front line in the Korean War. Once home, he met and married the love of his life, Marilyn, in June 1953.
Ken joined the Piedmont Fire Department in 1953 and worked there until joining the Oakland Fire Department in 1959. He retired from the OFD as a Captain in March 1985.
Ken and Marilyn raised their family in Castro Valley, and then moved to Sebastopol in 1977, building a house on the property that had been in the McHugh family since 1902. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and travelling, in addition to home building and remodeling. He was a member of the Community Church of Sebastopol, as well as the Sebastopol Rotary Club.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, of 63 years. He is also survived by his three children; Michael McHugh, Linda McHugh Fosdahl (David), and David McHugh (Kathleen). Ken also had seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who he dearly loved.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Ken on June 18, 2017 at the Community Church of Sebastopol, 1000 Gravenstein Highway North, Sebastopol, CA beginning at 2:00 p.m.
